Meet Dharma, a one-and-a-half year-old stray from the streets of Louisiana. When Animal control found her, she was scared, severely matted, and infested with fleas. And like most strays in LA, she immediately went to a high kill shelter where hundreds of dogs are euthanized if they are not claimed within five days.
Dharma, like most rescue dogs, is the essence of resilience. Despite going through hell and being placed on death row, this sweet little girl chooses only to greet everyone with love and tenderness. No signs of resentment whatsoever. Only joy and a tail that wags with gratitude. Perhaps a lesson for us all: Even when things appear to be at their very worst...there is always hope. Simply stated, sometimes just one day can be the difference between tragic and magic.
"Life's challenges are not supposed to paralyze you, they're supposed to help you discover who you are." — Bernice Johnson Reagon
Training is off to a great start. Step one is passing the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test, followed by more advanced training, leading up to her becoming a therapy/service dog. In the near future, Dharma will be working with Michael, helping kids and adults that are struggling with anxiety, depression, and PTSD. She is an amazing little dog and destined to make a positive impact in many people's lives.
